Epiduo Acne Treatment?
This question regards the acne treatment gel called Epiduo. I started using it only a week ago. The dermatologist gave me also an exfoliating gel which is supposed to clean the face, and then told me to apply Epiduo once every night. Also he gave me an hydrating cream for the mornings. No need to say that my face starts burning after I apply Epiduo on my face. I was wondering if it is the exfoliating gel that's making it worst. Was anyone assigned the same type of cure for acne?? And has the dermatologist told you to first use the exfoliating gel and right after the Epiduo gel!??
I was thinking that the order I use all these products might also affect the way my face burns.Thank you
The Epiduo is a combination of benzoyl peroxide and a retinoid (adapalene). Both of these are in a very low concentration, so that normally they would not cause any irritation, although there are some people who get irritated even by the low adapalene concentration. There are also people who develop an allergy to the benzoyl peroxide, but that generally causes itching and not burning. Having said that, it appears that you are being irritated by your regimen. It is not for me to step on another dermatologist's regimen, but personally, I'd not have given you an exfoliant if you are being given the adapalene. And, make sure that your morning hydrating cream is "non-oily" or else you will be worsening your acne and getting back to square one.
