How Acne Laser Surgery Works and Its Effects
Lasers have been discovered in 1958 and have since been a powerful industrial tool. However, their use in medical procedures as in acne laser surgery has been truly revolutionary. One reason is that lasers can cut through tissue with less bleeding as lasers can actually coagulate tissue and stop the bleeding. Lasers can also reach areas inside the body easily than it is for a scalpel. Moreover, lasers help surgeons target highly specific areas of the body without affecting nearby parts.
There are two forms of lasers used for acne laser surgery, the resurfacing laser or ablative lasers and the non-ablative lasers. The ablative laser removes the top skin layer and is achieved by burning away the scarred and damaged skin tissue. The non-ablative laser, on the other hand, trigger reactions in the dermis without wounding the surface of the skin avoiding any negative effects on the skin.
The different energy and tissue-penetrating capabilities of the laser may be used to repair complex acne scars. A deep penetrating YAG laser may be used to shape irregular acne scar and a carbon dioxide laser may be used to constrict the collagen fibers of the skin and raise depressed acne scars. Laser treatments can make patients look years younger that is why it is an appealing procedure for most people.
Acne laser surgery is a costly procedure and not one without undesirable factors. For one, its effectiveness is dependent upon the skills and efficiency of the doctor. Seeking and picking qualified and certified medical practitioners should be a priority as cost depends on the experience of the provider and quality of the facilities (state of the art, brand new, trained staff, etc). There are also cases in which laser treatments are repeated to achieve the desired look you are after. So it is better to keep in mind that this treatment may not be a one-time deal.
After knowing all this, is acne laser surgery the best option for you? Not everyone is an ideal candidate for this procedure. There are people with very sensitive skin and cannot tolerate the after-surgery medications and creams used to heal the wounds. You would also need a lot of time before and after the surgery and if you are working, this can be a bit of a problem. If you are willing to undergo the procedure you must be prepared to face the consequences which may arise as with any other medical procedures.
