The Drugs I Need
Acne Treatment Drugs
Before going for a treatment of any disease one has to understand the problem first and the factors that are responsible for that particular infection or illness. Before coming over to the treatment drugs for acne we must understand the disease. Acne is basically caused by the dead cells, blackheads, bacteria dust and which gets trapped inside the hair follicles.
Actually it all starts with blackheads which develop as a result of excessive sebum (oil) production and dead cells that shed away and get trapped in hair follicles. These blackheads when rubbed hard and touched with dirty hands cause pimples or pustules. When these pimples become more infected they leave a permanent scar on face.
There are several types of acne depending on the age of individual. Teenage acne is quite different from the one in adults and both have very different treatments. The treatment prescribed for the teenager is not beneficial to an adult for curing his/her acne. There are many different causes of acne, mainly it is caused by stress, use of bad cosmetics, hormonal changes due to adolescence, and it can even be caused by the use of birth control pills. There is a common miss conception in many people that having excess of chocolates also cause and cheese also cause acne, believe me that has nothing to do with acne.
We have pilosebaceous units in our skin which are made up of hair follicles. These units are present in almost all parts of body except toes, palms, feet top and lower lips. It is the pilosebaceous unit disorder that causes acne to appear. These units are mainly responsible for the excretion of sebum in the skin that keeps the skin moisturized and healthy. During adolescence period the sebaceous glands present in these units get enlarged and increase the sebum production. This traps of all the dirt, dead cells and the bacteria that actually feed on sebum in the hair follicles causing infection and acne.
A lot of prescribed treatments are available in the market for acne but it is such a sensitive issue that without knowing the suitability, one should refrain from using any of them. Acne treatment drugs come in all categories they may be OTCs, creams and lotions and in the form of tablets as well. Some well known drugs for acne treatment are; OTC drugs which usually contain anti bacterial agents to treat mild acne, in creams and lotions we have “Skinoren” which conatains Azelaic acid, an alternate to benzoyl peroxide which makes your skin less sour as compare to benzoyl peroxide. Adapelene is another example which contains Retinoids and are prescribed for gentle rubbing onto your skin. Some other famous anti acne lotions and creams are; Quinoderm, Delacin T, Stiemycin etc.
Oral treatments are also prescribed by the doctors to cure severe acne cases, some of them are Roaccutane which is an oral retinoid, Isotretinoin is another such prescription which works by drying up the oil secretion in the skin. Some of the oral contraceptive pills also help the women having acne. Though these treatments are quite effective in most of the cases but as all others they do have some side effects such as lever disorders and depression.
