doxycycline and yeast infection?


ive been on doxycycline for my acne for about a year or so now and all of a sudden i think i have developed a yeast infection. is it possible for it to just appear because of the antibiotics even though ive been taking it for so long? im also on the pill and ive heard that can cause it and ive been on it for about the same time. please help me get to the bottom of this!

I had never heard of doxycycline being used to treat acne until I did my research tonight about this. I know my prescription drugs well as I am a nurse, and doxycycline is normally used to treat bacterial infections. Since it IS a member of the antibiotic family, yes it will cause yeast infections. A yeast infection is a side effect of MOST antibiotics. My suggestion to you... is go to the drug store or walmart, buy a yeast infection treatment (the walmart brand is called myconozole 7) This is a 7 day yeast infection treatment where a cream is inserted into the vagina before bed and washed out in the morning. Sometimes with a severe yeast infection, it doesn't always clear up in 7 days. Try the myconozole for another 7 day period (a total of 14 days). It will clear up, I promise. But i'm sure you will be fine. Sometimes yeast infections are not only itchy, but can be painful too, try to refrain from having sex when you have a yeast infection. Guys can get yeast infections too! 2nd of all, do not have sex with the myconozole in the vagina. The treatment will not work if you do this. Hope you find this helpful!
