Adult Acne Allergy

Mild Allergy to Milk? But no other dairy products.?

So basically I can't drink milk or else i break out like crazy. I can have every other dairy product( with a few exceptions) I can have like ice cream, yogurt and cheese. So it's really just milk.

I started drinking soy milk a while back and it helped. I mean I still get pimples and stuff but I'm a teen so it's normal but before it was like rashes and really bad acne and stuff.

It's weird that it's only milk though. People sometimes don't believe me that I can't have milk ( Adults mostly) So is this like rare or what?

Ever heard of it before? What causes it?
Lol Sandra I'm 14 so I don't have a kid. It's me with the issues.

I think you are allergic to whey.

There are two types of protein in milk that can cause an allergic reaction:

* Casein, which is found in the solid part (curd) of milk that curdles
* Whey, which is found in the liquid part of milk that remains after milk curdles

You or your child may be allergic to only one milk protein or allergic to both casein and whey. These proteins are not only present in milk — but also are found in many processed foods. Certain foods contain both casein and whey; other foods contain only one allergy-causing milk protein.

Cheese is produced by curdling milk and draining off the whey; the protein is casein, which seems not to bother you. Ice cream is made from cream, which is separated from milk and is mostly fat. Yogurt is made from whole or skim milk; I am not sure why it works for you.

Whey is a secret ingredient in lots of things, but probably in small quantities.

Everyone is a bit different from everyone else. Go ahead and drink soy milk if it works for you. It contains protein and calcium; it's expensive too.
