A Guide To Firming Body Washes
Let me ask you a question. Does firming body wash work as the manufacturers claim? They provide no real data concerning that, but there are a number of consumer reviews that we can look to. That could help us get the information that we are interested in.
Mostly, these are inexpensive products. There's nothing wrong with spending less on a cleanser, as long as the ingredients are safe and natural. But, the reason that more expensive cleansers typically do not claim to improve firmness is because they know it doesn't work or will on work when used in conjunction with another product. If you are looking for a multi-purpose solution, firming body wash isn't one of them.
Look at all of the reviews published online. Choose five or more if you like. I chose five. Of them, some of the women were happy with the product, but not one of them said that it actually made their skin firmer.
One woman developed redness and a rash after the very first use. After calling the manufacturer, she was told that the product should not cause that kind of reaction. So, she tried it again, one week later, with the same results. Like her, most women blame themselves for having sensitive skin.
We all have sensitive skin. Some of us may be more prone to allergic reactions than others. But, everyone, if they were smart, would treat their skin as if it was ultra-sensitive. The cosmetic companies could easily help with that, by only using non-irritating ingredients. But, as long as we continue to blame ourselves for a product failure, they aren't likely to change. We may need to change the way that we think about health and beauty aids.
The typical firming body wash on the market is supposed to clean, moisturize and firm. Cleansers do not moisturize. They cannot, if they are effective at removing excessive oils and dead skin cells. They don't need to be harsh, but by definition, removing excessive oils causes a little dryness.
If the cleanser had a moisturizer in it, which most of them don't, you would rinse it off. Moisturizers are "leave-on" solutions that replenish the skin's natural oils and if they contain the right ingredients, they can fade stretch marks, help heal blemishes and improve firmness by over 40% after 18 days. There is no firming body wash that promises results like that.
In order to increase firmness, we need ingredients that stimulate the production of new cells and elastic fibers. There are ingredients that are proven to do that, but you wouldn't find it in a daily body wash. When it comes to cleansing, you are better of sticking with a basic soap, a little tea tree oil or a manuka honey bar.
Make no mistake about it. One of the best lotions on the market contains manuka honey, because of its antibacterial and antioxidants activity. It helps heal blemishes and reduces the damage that can be done by free radicals. You won't find manuka in firming body wash, but you will find it in some of the better cleansers. Follow up with an effective moisturizer. You'll be happier with the results.
