Your Razor: The Crucial Start of your Razor Bumps Treatment
There are very many websites and articles that deal with shaving techniques. For example, there are those that tell you whether or not to have your shaving strokes in the direction of growth of the hair you are shaving. Each way has its adherents.
What is undeniable is the importance of the equipment and shaving materials you use for shaving. Your shaving gel is important. Before you start to cut the hair you need a gel or pre-shave lotion (for electric shavers) that softens it so that it is cut with minimal effort. Also the gel or lotion should have the property of protecting the skin so that the razor glides over it to minimise the scraping it is subjected to. An anti-bumps gel or lotion should also have some ingredient(s) to stop, or at least start to calm, the post shaving inflammation that would normally lead to infection, and then, bumps. Recent research by Breej Technologies Inc., an American pharmaceutical company involved in research into Personal Care problems has shown that shaving bumps are the result of the skin reacting to the trauma of shaving. This trauma is manifested as inflammation.
Just as important as the gel or pre-electric lotion, is the razor you shave with, be it manual or electric. This is because the razor should cut the hair as close to the skin as possible without damaging the top of it. It is the damage, due to scrapping, to the top layer of the skin, the epidermis, that causes the trauma, irritation and inflammation which lead on to infection and, ultimately, bumps. So the choice of razor is vitally important if one is to avoid having bumps.
If you already have bumps it is important that you treat and get rid of the problem before you start shaving again. To continue to shave while you still have the bumps would make the situation worse. Once the bumps are treated, find yourself the right pre-shave gel or lotion and razor. Being free of razor or shaving bumps starts with these two very important components more than technique.
