Warning - Facial Cleanser Cream Can Be Hazardous to Your Health
People don't often think of facial cleanser cream as something that could be hazardous to their health. But, suit was recently brought against a number of manufacturers in California, because the cleansers they produced contain 1,4-Dioxane, which is on California's list of known carcinogens, cancer-causing agents.
The US Food and Drug Administration advises consumers to read the label, before they buy any kind of cosmetic or skincare products, but you won't see Dioxane listed on a label of ingredients. It forms as a byproduct when the petrochemical ethylene oxide is used to make harsh ingredients milder.
The worst part of the findings in California is that every one of the cleansers was promoted as being natural and organic. Most of us are making efforts to use more natural products and buy organic, whenever possible. We think that we are doing something good for our health.
Cosmetic manufacturers can insure that the products they provide are safe and pure. They can test each raw ingredient for contaminants and then test each finalized batch for contaminants like Dioxane that form during processing. The facial cleanser cream manufacturers sued by California did not do that. They were unaware of the problem until it was brought to their attention.
If a company used ingredients that were mild to begin with, they wouldn't need to use petrochemicals like ethylene oxide to make them less harsh. Ingredients like tea tree oil and manuka honey are mild enough to be used as daily cleansers and they have natural anti-bacterial activity that helps heal and prevent future blemishes.
The only thing that you really need to clean your face is warm water and a clean cloth. Dermatologists see a great many problems that are caused by over-cleansing. They suggest that you use cleansers only when necessary.
Instead of using a harsh daily facial cleanser cream, you could use a deep cleansing mask on an occasional basis. The new ones don't dry out. They aren't green or blue.
They absorb excess oils and pull dirt out of the pores. After 20 or 30 minutes, you simply rinse them off to reveal the clean, fresh complexion that you want to see. If the masks contain the right ingredients, they can help delay and reverse the signs of aging, too.
The best facial cleanser cream masks contain nourishing compounds that support the skin's natural rejuvenation processes, such as coenzyme Q10, the protein keratin, peptide complexes and vitamin E. The effectiveness of those compounds has been proven in clinical trials.
Researchers have begun to focus more and more on natural complexes. We don't really know what damage all of those synthetic petrochemicals may cause. States like California and countries in the European Union are working to help provide better regulations to help protect consumers. But, right now, it is up to the consumer to protect their own skin.
Knowing all of these things, you might not ever look at facial cleanser cream in the same way again. But, this is just the tip of the iceberg. There's always more to learn.
