Cystic Acne Minocycline
Should I go on Accutane?
Last year I was diagnosed with severe cystic acne and put on Minocycline (AKA Minocin). After a few months with no results, my dermatologist doubled my dosage to the maximum amount for my body size. When I went in today for my check-up, I was fully aware that he would more than likely want to put me on Accutane. Though he talked to me for quite a while about it and I feel better than I did, it still makes me ridiculously nervous to go on that medicine. I went ahead and gave my first urine sample (pregnancy test, but I don't like to call it that) and, because I'm abstinent, it was obviously negative. I have one month to think about it.
Anyone taken Accutane? Experience went well? Comments? I'll take anything.
i'm currently on my fourth month (out of five) of claravis, a generic form of accutane. i also had severe cystic acne before i started the drug. i had tried many otc products along with several different prescriptions, both oral and topical, from my doctor. my doctor finally referred me to a derm in february. at my first appointment he brought up accutane right away. i noticed improvement in my skin within the first month of treatment and am almost clear at this point. some people do break out worse before they start clearing up, however. i haven't experienced any unbearable side effects, just the dry lips, dry skin, dry nose, joint pain when i exercise, and back pain that i only feel if i'm bending over or when i lay down. there is a very long list of side effects that could possibly occur from accutane and you should be aware of them. i'm sure you know about the ipledge program since you did take a pregnancy test. the program is pretty much there because of stupid people who weren't careful on the drug in the past. it is a bit ridiculous and requires all females who can become pregnant to be using two forms of birth control even when they are abstinent. under the program, you'll have to get monthly blood tests done to insure that the drug isn't harming your body. you'll also need monthly pregnancy tests and will need to answer a series of questions about ipledge/accutane either online or by phone before your prescription will be filled each month. i'd definitely say that my experience with the drug has been positive.
you might want to check out this forum, it has tons of info on accutane.

Acne Treatment Using Cleansers, Exfoliators & Antibiotics
What should I do for my skin?
last week my doctor gave me an oral prescription of minocycline and a topical of differin gel. I took the mino b4 for cystic acne and it worked fine, I probably should have just stuck with the oral cause my skin went BEZERK because of the differin. I stopped using the differin as of sunday night, but what can I do? I have 3 larger pimples and a ton of lil pimples, yucky! I started using pan oxyl face wash last night, and I drink tons of water, I c my boyfriend in 8 days, what can I do to fix this?
You didn't use the Differin nearly long enough. You are supposed to use it for a few months before you see results. I saw some improvement within a few weeks.
Your skin supposed to get worse on Differin (temporarily). This is actually a positive sign that it is working. If the side effects are unbearable, go back to the Derm for something else. Other than that, this is just how Differin (and Retin-A) work, you have to give them some time to work. People tend togive up too fast and think it didn't work. Most people's skin gets a little worse before it gets better. Your doctor should have told you this, it is also on their website.
BenzaClin didnt make my skin worse before it got better. Your doctor can give it to you- it is benzoyl peroxide and a topical antibiotic. It is a bit drying, but so is Differin and Retin-A. I don't know if this is ok though with your oral antibiotic.
