The Real Fact About Acne Treatment

Acne is one of the top skin problems of teenagers. Come to think of it, it is one of the top skin problems of humans in general. Although it is the teenagers who are more prone to acne, even adults have bouts with it on some level.

Many of us ignore acne and just think it will go away by itself. This may be true and good enough if you are experiencing milder symptoms. However, this attitude can be a big problem if you have moderate to severe versions of this very stubborn skin infection.

The fact of the matter is that acne can be treated. It is, however, easier said than done. There are a number of issues that people fail to recognize when they go about seeking acne treatment and most of it arise from the fact that a lot of people have the wrong attitude when approaching this problem. The first step is to acknowledge these issues and to learn how to look at them objectively so you can arrive at the best treatment plan that will fit you and your personality.

I guess that is the first issue that most people recognize--- that acne has more than one causes and that a method may work for one but will not work for another. That is just fact. There are four known causes of acne: excessive sebum production, rapid growth of bacteria that causes it (i.e., P. acnes), above average skin shedding, and skin inflammation. They can each be a cause or a combination of any of them, or all of them at the same can be present in any individual afflicted with skin acne. Today's treatment methods attack one or more of the four causes.

Second issue is that a mild form of acne is more likely to respond to treatment faster than a moderate or severe case. Furthermore, you should acknowledge the fact that treatment cannot succeed overnight and that even the most effective treatments will take time. Hence, as far as acne is concerned, patience can be a big ally.

The third and final issue is the fact that most cases will probably require consultation with a licensed dermatologist. It is not advised that you blindly go into a treatment regimen without knowing what it is doing first. And who best to ask about it than a professional, right? Over-the-counter treatments can be sourced easily but there are modern cures that can only be prescribed by doctors.

Acne treatment is not something that can be accomplished in a day or two. It is a process that must be executed from start to finish and will usually involve a lot of time and patience. Success is spelled, in large part, by your attitude and your degree of understanding of the problem. As always, knowledge should be your top priority and you need to do your due diligence before diving into something that is previously unknown to you. Cliché as it may be, even with skin problems such as acne, knowledge is power.
