Facial Foam Deep best drugstore cleanser for me(combo, flakey, acne prone skin)??
i have combinatiion, acne prone skin with scarring and flakey cheeks.
i've tried these products:
cetaphil, neutrogena oil free acne wash, clean& clear deep action cream cleanser & spectro jel.
i dont care what type (like bar, foam etc.) I just want it to work.
what products would work good for me?
what about Dove energy glow foaming facial cleanser?
I have combination skin, too. In addition to that, I have extra sensitive skin, which makes it even harder to find products. The problem is in those acne cleansers, because Combination Skin type can have slightly dry skin even in the T-zone, so they don't work. This is what I do:
1. Cleansers with salicylic acid (any %), which Proactiv has 2.5%, works well for the oily areas (T-zone) but NOT for the dry and flaky areas, as the ingredient dries it out too much, making it peel even more. That's why Proactiv works for some people and not others. And it's not practical to use one cleanser for the T-zone and another for the cheeks and other areas. Instead, what you should try is a much more gentle cleanser. Try Neutrogena's Gentle Cleanser; One Step Gentle Cleanser (1 step because it removes eye makeup, too, saving you $ from extra makeup removers); or Oil of Olay's Gentle Foaming Fash Wash. Wash twice a day. Both of these are gentle enough to wash away the surface oils, but WITHOUT any harsh acne ingredients. Most foaming cleansers, designed for acne-control, are way too harsh on the dry skin areas. So stay away from the word "foaming," unless it's specifically for combination skin (haven't seen any yet). Remember, dry flaky skin = even more acne.
2. Toners are not necessary, as it tends to dry out the face even more. A great cleanser should be effective enough to wash away everything without requiring the extra step of a toner. But if you're still uncomfortable without the reassurance of a toner, then try Neutrogena's Alcohol Free Toner or L'Oreal's HydraFresh Toner. Both of these are also extra gentle, but L'Oreal's has fragrance, which is not good for my ultra sensitive skin.
3. Now, for the dry, flaky patches, as well as the T-zone, you MUST exfoliate the dead skin off. Either use St. Ives' Apricot Scrub (the cheapest manual exfoliant) or a BHA exfoliant to chemically slough off the dead skin. The dead skins that falls into the skin follicles is what traps the oil inside and causing even MORE acne. When BHA is used in combination with the super gentle products listed above, it won't dry out your skin further. BHA exfoliation is the key to effective acne control. The harsh cleansers and toners that cause more dry skin will only increase flaky skin that traps more oil.
4. As for the actual acne-control step, after washing your face, apply a topical disinfectant with either 5% or 10% Benzoyl Peroxide, such as Clearisil or Persa Gel or Walmart's Equate brand. Just look for the Benzoyl Peroxide in the active ingredient list. With this ingredient, use it ONLY on your T-zone and other oily areas; DO NOT apply to the dry cheeks.
5. I don't use any acne-control facial moisturizers because it's too harsh on the dry areas. Yet not using a moisturizer at all is not good either. For the middle ground, try Oil of Olay's SPF 15 Lotion for Combination Skin, which you can put on the T-zone, too, without being too thick to trap more oils. Or opt for any facial moisturizer without salicylic acid in it. If you use salicylic acid moisturizer on top of the Benzoyl Peroxide, it will be too drying. If you feel uncomfortable not using an acne-control moisturizer, then use it only on the T-zone. For night time, use any night cream sparingly on the dry areas.
6. As for the scars, try Vitamin E oil, the most cost-efficient and effective scar-fading ingredient. It doesn't need to be name brands, they have generic store brands, too. Compare and look for the highest concentration. Mix just a drop or 2 into your moisturizer. Apply twice daily to the scarred spots. Cocoa Butter is not effective enough for acne scars.
After a week or so, you should start seeing improvement.

Trying to pick a good makeup remover for the face?
I'm trying to choose between four face makeup removers and just couldnt decide....
So...b/t Lancome, Lise Watier (the 3 in 1 DÉMAQUILLANT COMPLET), Neutrogena deep clean facial cleanser, or Clinique (either Rinse-Off Foaming Cleanser or Wash-Away Gel Cleanser?)
Some background of my skin...asian, combination skin, occational breakouts, forehead becomes oily sometimes....22 yrs old
Give me ur opinion~~~~ ^o^
thx~~
wow ppl reply fast in here... haha
thx everyone~~ so from the replies...the decision should be b/t clinique and neutrogena? i'm leaning towards clinique...anyone know if the foam or the gel one's better for my skin?
and can anyone be more specific? like for the product name and stuff >_< thx alot!!
and neutrogina face mask huh...i'll try it next time~
as for the conditioner....well i just dont want to risk it >_< but still thx for the reply!!
okay even though your face gets oily sometimes here's what i do (and trust me my face gets oily a lot too)
- get some baby oil. get a washcloth (or tissue, tissues are softer on the eyes) and get it wet then apply just a smidge of baby oil. wipe away all makeup and when done wash face.
i use clinique. they have an easy three step process that cleans my face and gives it some lotion to keep my face moist and oil free all day (lotion to keep you oil free, never heard of it!) ahah(:
and if you're breaking out even occasionaly, when you feel a breakout coming on (or currently have one) go to the store and buy a neutrogina face mask. you can literally feel your face getting cleaner. apply to your face for five minutes once a day every two days until all zits are gone. ive been battling an oily face for many years now and i have learned to control when i get a breakout!
