Hi everyone. I just started using retin a micro on friday and i was also prescribed hydroquinone for fading my acne scars. i use Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser and Aveeno Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer which BOTH contains Salicylic Acid 0.5%.
However, today when i woke up, i had little red dots on my forehead and above my lip..like a rash. is that due to the fact that im using the cleanser which contains the Salicylic Acid 0.5%??? Should i switch to using cetaphil cleanser for normal to oily skin and their regular moisturizer???

what is up with small blisters on my upper lip, forehead and chin??? they look like a rash...
That Retin-A cream is strong!! I'm surprised you didn't get a bunch of redness on top of the rash. I used it and was told to use a gentle cleaner like Ivory twice a day and to stay away from anything that contains salicylic acid or benzamyacin--any medicated cleaners.
Yeah, Retin A can be pretty rough on the skin. It takes some getting used to. For the first week, my face was red as a beet. I had to use it every second day until I got used to it. Once I did though, it really worked.
Try the Ivory soap and if you have to moisturize, try something non-cosmedogenic (so you don't clog your pores and get more acne)--a nice moisturizer, especially for users of the Retin-A is Aveeno unscented with menthol. The oatmeal and menthol cools and reduces redness.
I'd actually skip a day of the Retin-A and apply a nice slathering of the Aveeno, just until the rash goes away a bit. I'm afraid the Retin-A will irritate the rash, so leave it for a day, then start with the Ivory and maybe the Aveeno during the day if you feel your skin is dry.
After the rash is gone, it's probably best to avoid moisturizer. The Retin-A sloths off the top layers of skin, and moisturizers slow that process.
