Moderate acne is causing tears and stress and MAJOR confidence issues...am I doing the right thing?


I'm currently on Yaz Birth Control. I've been taking this for a little over a month and have seen few results. Dissappointing.
I recently started soaking a hot washrag (to open pores) and placing it on my face for several seconds and immediately after cleansing with Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control Foam then rinse. I let that sit for a few minutes then apply a thin layer of Clindamycin Topical Lotion.

I use Physicians Formula Mineral Powder Make-up so that i dont further irritate my skin.

This is seriously causing major stress and confidence issues. Any other suggestions? I'm trying to avoid accutane!!!

I just switch from Minocycline to birth control dianette and I broke out. I was in tears also because I did have clear skin for 5 years under medication. My dermatologist says that this is very normal because birth controls take at least 3 months to see results so I suggest you stick to it. There's nothing much you can do. Your regimen sounds something like mine. I also use Clindamycin on my face but I don't use Neutrogena cleansers, I use Cetaphil because my doctor told me to and has work well for 5 years. But I guess cleansers can only help that much and couldn't control my acne when I switch medications. I tried over the years that nothing helped, cleanser, diet and stuff and finally I realised that its genetics.

Well I also have moderate acne now but just a few days ago, I found something very useful for my face and that is dipping it in hot water! When I mean hot water, I don't mean scaldingly hot but as hot as you skin can handle without getting burnt. Well this is it, fill a basin or your sink and dip your face in for 60 seconds( take breaths at 10). Do this after you cleanse. Apply stuff as usual after dipping. Holding your face deep in the warm water (which feels nice anyway) forces your clogged oily pores to be seriously cleaned, and fast. The warm water gets blood flowing in your face which helps heal old scars also, and drys the rest of your pores out so the oil is gone!. Do not do this more then twice a day. Do this for at least 1 week to see results. No more acne pop up for me now, just the healing process..

Lastly, diet and food is important. I used to tell people in yahoo that eating healthy and proper cleansing is important and i will continue to do so because some acne can be cause by diet and not cleaning enough which is really true. So please keep your diet healthy even if your acne is caused by genetics like me. I still keep my diet healthy though. Eat lots of Vitamin C, A, E and Omega-3. Below is my regimen if you want to know.

Morning:
Cleanse with Cetaphil gentle cleanser.
Dip face in hot water for 60secs
Apply Clindamycin
Apply Neutrogena ultra sheer sunblock SPF55

Afternoon:
Cleanse with Cetaphil
Apply Clindamycin
Apply Neutrogena Sunblock

Night:
Cleanse with Cetaphil
Apply Retin-A 0.05%

Also you might want to know that birth control can cause mood swings. You have to tell your doctor about it if you are constantly in tears or depress. It could be the the contraceptive
