Laser Scar Removal

laser scar removal?? In Illinois or ST. Louis Missouri?
I need to know if there is any place in ILlinois that offers laser scar removal? How much does it cost, how long it takes to heal and if there has to be follow ups and so forth...please help.thanks.
I would think your best bet would be to seek a referral from a near by hospital or medical facility. Also check your insurance prior to the procedure, as you may need pre approval.

What Takes Place During the Laser Scar Treatment Procedure?
Laser scar treatment works by using a sophisticated laser created to decrease or remove many types of scars. The dermatologist will press a hand-held device against the region of your skin that is to be treated. It will release beams of light, which erode the uppermost layer of skin. Below the scar, the laser will uncover healthier and smoother skin. The premise is not unlike the sandpapering of a tabletop to reduce rough spots. This procedure is also done on scar-free skin, when it is called laser skin resurfacing. Laser methods can dramatically reduce the appearance of your scar, making it less visible.
Several different types of lasers are used during laser scar treatment; the doctor will choose the optimum one to apply based on your skin type and the scar. The lasers applied are not all the same, but the process itself does not usually vary. There are three main types of scars; various lasers have been designed for each one. For severe scarring, the laser used will need to be more powerful. Even so, you may decide to opt for more treatments rather than a stronger laser if this is the case. The more powerful lasers can get through further into the skin; this may increase your chance of side effects from laser scar treatment. Due to this, make certain you realize the significance of your dermatologist's selection of laser technology.
During the procedure itself, everyone in the room will need to wear protective eye-wear to shield the eyes from the laser breams. A cooling gel will be put onto your skin to be treated, and perhaps treated with an anaesthetic if the scar is in a tender location. Your doctor may also give you pain killers, though many patients do not report the treatment painful enough to need them. If you are worried about discomfort, you can get over-the-counter pain medicine just before the procedure.
Laser scar treatment is a precise procedure, because of this the skin surrounding your scar should not be affected. During the treatment, the doctor presses a laser device on your skin. Pulses of light are emitted from the laser, these penetrate your skin and vaporize the upper layer. As the pulse goes into the skin, you will likely sense a moderate stinging sensation. Sessions to address minor scaring can last between ten to fifteen minutes, while larger and more serious scars could last longer. A few treatments are often required to obtain a satisfactory reduction in the appearance and size of the scar.
