How to Get Rid of Facial Skin Redness
Inflammation is the cause of any facial skin redness. The same goes for rosacea redness; inflammation is the culprit. So what can we do about inflammation? Here are some things that may trigger skin redness and what you can do.
So, the most effective rosacea treatment would include at least three steps; avoiding the triggers, reducing the inflammation and addressing the causes. Let’s look at the possible causes, first. Those are:
• Imbalanced amino acid and peptide levels
• Bacteria overgrowth and increased sensitivity to it
• Overexposure to sunlight
• Harsh cleansers, exfoliants, wrinkle treatments, microdermabrasion, irritants, etc.
• Medications, including steroids, Isotretinoin and tretinoin
• Mites or parasites
Topically applied creams can be used to address many of these issues. In addition, dermatologists have seen some success in treating facial skin redness with oral antibiotics. If you would like to try to treat the problem on your own, before consulting a dermatologist, the first step would be to consider the possible causes and do what you can to avoid them.
For example, you can avoid overexposure to sunlight and use only mild cleansers. After cleansing and at bedtime, you should always use a good moisturizer. One that contains premium quality Shea butter is a good choice, because it has natural anti-inflammatory activity.
Step 1: Avoid the possible causes.
Step 2: Use a moisturizer with natural anti-inflammatory activity.
Step3: Rosacea skin treatment is to avoid things that trigger facial skin redness.
It is theorized that facial skin redness can become permanent, when blushing or flushing occurs frequently.
The triggers that have been identified include:
• Alcohol
• Spicy foods
• Caffeinated beverages, especially hot coffee and warm tea
• Histamine-rich foods, which include anchovies, aged cheeses, root beer, eggplant, pickled meats, sauerkraut, mackerel, mushrooms, sausage, hot dogs, breads containing large amounts of yeast
This three (3) step rosacea skin treatment works for many people. In some cases, only one or two of the steps is necessary. It’s a good idea to start by avoiding the sun, because it does other kinds of age-related damage to the skin.
Harsh cleansers and exfoliants are also easy to avoid. Dermatologists have found that most people tend to “over-clean” anyway. A cleanser is often unnecessary. Warm water and a clean cloth will typically do the trick.
Although Shea butter is not recognized as an over-the-counter rosacea treatment in the US, it has been used as a natural anti-inflammatory in other countries for many years. It should help reduce rosacea redness, quickly. Because it is very similar to the skin’s own sebum, it moisturizes without causing greasiness. The better anti-aging night creams contain it and another natural anti-inflammatory called Functional Keratin.
Functional Keratin is an active protein complex with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity. It could help to balance amino acid and peptide levels, too. The best night creams contain it, Shea butter and an ingredient called Active Manuka honey.
Manuka has natural anti-bacterial activity. If the cause of facial skin redness, in your case, is bacterial overgrowth, manuka should help.
