Microdermabrasion Crystals Bad Acne-Is Microdermabrasion right for me?
Hello all! I am sitting here wondering if I should go run out to the store and buy one of those at home microdermabrasion tools (the white handheld device that sluffs off your skin w/a special crystal solution). Also similar to that microdermabrasion tool in the infomercial that Susan Lucci promotes (I can't think of the name of it right now). Well anyways I'm 22, I currently have BAD acme and have been to the dermatologist in the past which worked but my skin seemed to work itself back up to a bad state. Would microdermabrasion (one of these handheld tools) be beneficial for me since my skin is so bad (or even harmful)? I read somewhere that all the oil in the skin is trapped under about 7 layers of dead skin cells trying to nourish them and common sense would tell me if you get rid of those 7 layers it would take care of the oil, atleast make it that much easier to kill it. Be careful! I have acne-prone skin and I've found that anything abrasive, like microdermabrasion, only makes acne worse! If you want to get rid of the top layers of skin and oil that are clogging your pours, go with a gentle glycolic acid chemical peel. Those have always worked for me. Make sure you go to a good spa with an experienced aesthetician and ask her to make sure the peel is "buffered." You'll want a series of 3-4 peels to see a difference, but I promise it helps.
