can micro dermabrasion scar plz help?
im really considering gettin my acne scars treated with microdermabrasion they are on my forehead and jus under my eye on one side they are not severe bu u can notice them and when i was lookin at the m/dermabrasion procedure online it looks as if it could give you scars never mind get rid of them rubbin a tool on acne takin layers of skin off so i would jus like to know if there are any side affects i should no about tnx
I've never heard that that is a potential risk in microdermabrasion. I know that hyper and hypo pigmentation is a possibility, mostly in darker skin types. If you still have acne or any number of skin conditions, you can't get microderm.
In microderm, only the first layer of the skin (which is made up of dead skin cells) is removed, leaving the living layer untouched. When this is done, pretty much anything you put on your skin penetrates better. The skin cells then rush to repair the missing layer.
Before you freak out about doing it, you'll want to talk to someone who would actually do the procedure. Either a dermatologist or esthetician at a med spa. They will be able to give you an honest opinion of what you need (if the scarring is minimal you might be able to enliminate it with chemical peels) and tell you what to expect.

Facial Treatments Face Off! Dermabrasion Vs. Microdermabrasion
Freckles aren't my friend. I don't care if you call them angel kisses or fly specks (thanks dad), to me, freckles mean sun damaged skin. And for millions of women like me, summer's end means severe sun damage, brown spot pigmentation and dry, flaky skin. How can we treat it?
One of the safest, most popular treatments for treating sun damaged skin is microdermabrasion. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery's (ASAPS) most recent report (2007), microdermabrasion is one of the top five nonsurgical aesthetic procedures performed in the United States.
What does it do? According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), microdermabrasion effectively:
- reduces wrinkles
- treats sun spots
- tightens loose skin
- improves skin tone and color
- removes blotchiness
It's also used to shrink enlarged pores, fade stretch marks, clear clogged pores of debris, control oily skin and revitalize dull skin.
How does microdermabrasion work? It sloughs off (or exfoliates) the dull or damaged outer skin layers to reveal the fresh, youthful skin layers beneath. The result? Glowing, youthful skin that is healthy and breathes freely. In a single session, there are often great improvements in the texture, tone and color of skin.
For more severe or advanced skin problems, many professionals opt for the more aggressive dermabrasion technique. It resurfaces skin to smooth away advanced hyperpigmentation, chronic sun damage, deep lines and wrinkles, scars, skin lesions, precancerous skin degeneration and tattoos.
How does dermabrasion work? Dermabrasion ‘sands' skin with a high-speed rotary instrument that has an abrasive brush or wheel. In effect, it scrapes off skin to stimulate the regrowth of healthy skin with a smoother, more youthful appearance. Since this technique is more invasive and requires local anesthesia before treatments and antibiotics or analgesics afterwards, it's typically performed in an outpatient facility or dermatologist's office. Soothing ointments and dressings are applied after treatments to reduce scab formation (crusting) and scarring. Immediately after dermabrasion, skin is red, swollen and quite painful. Healing times takes anywhere from two to three weeks.
