Phytome Acne

Please help me!!?


I'm so freakin tired of having acne!!! I've had it since I was 9 and I'm almost 17 now. I've tired Proactiv, Clinque, Ponds Cold Cream, Noxema, Neutragena Stress Free, Dove, Birth control, Differn Gel, Minocycline, and basically alot of other OTC products. Nothing seems to work. This is so depressing. I always have atleast 10 places on my face at all time. What can I do to get rid of the acne for good?? I heard that PhytoMe acne gel is good, does any know if it works? I have sensitive so alot of the OTC products seem to make it worse. Any suggests would be great!

Hun, I've had acne since I was 10, and I am almost 27 and still have it. Go to a dermatologist. They will probably start you out on antibiotics and a topical such as Retin-A or Cleacin T. If those don't work, they'll try other combos of different antibiotics. You may want to get your hormone levels checked too. Sometimes just getting put on the right birth control can clear you right up.

Worst case scenario, they'll try a product called Accutane. It works wonders (and make sure they follow up with an antibiotic treatment when done). But there are problems with it. They are starting to think that it is linked to depression and suicidal thoughts. It dries you out drastically, and I don't mean just your face, your whole body. You can suffer from joint and muscle aches, lower back pain, and you have to go in once a month to get blood work done to make sure you aren't doing damage to your liver. Like I said, it's caustic!

The other issue with Accutane is the chance of response. The more cycles (I think 3 months is one cycle) you go on it, the less the chance you respond or stay clear after you get off of it. For example, out of 100 people, 25% won't respond. So, that 25% goes onto a second cycle. Out of that group (the 25%) of people, 50% won't respond. Another cycle.....out of that group that didn't respond, 75% won't respond...and so forth.

I was on it 5 cycles. My face was clear, but as soon as I got off of it, I went right back to cystic acne. It's a serious decision to make. I would consider it the last resort. I still have lower back problems because of it. But, both of my other siblings did one cycle and it worked for them. *Note* Accutane causes serious birth defects if you get pregnant when taking it. You have to sign a contract and use at least two forms of birth control (one will be a birth control pill/ IUD/ Nuvaring), the other is up to you.

There is a new treatment out which I am going to try next month. There is a topical gel that they put on your face, and then place you in front of a special blue UV light. We'll see if it works.

P.S. Be careful of using hydrogen peroxide on your skin for long periods of time. You can cause scarring. Hydrogen peroxide in concentrate is what they use to dissolve the flesh off of bones in labs.
