What is the best skin care medication for acne while pregnant?
I've never broke out this much for so long and not been able to get rid of it in my life!!! Now all of a sudden the skin care product I've always used isn't working. Any suggestions?
Also, I heard on the radio yesterday also that proactive is great and although it definitely works its very expensive and there is other products that contain the same ingredients, oxy something, but forgot what she said so don't know what to look for.
Just a little information...
Proactiv contains the ingredient benzoyl peroxide; however, you're not supposed to use stuff with benzoyl peroxide in it while you are pregnant.
I know that Wal-Mart and Walgreens carry other cheaper brands that are knock-offs of the Proactiv solution, but most of them contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is also on the list of things to avoid in a face wash when you're pregnant!
A friend of mine was breaking out really bad while she was pregnant with her daughter; she asked her doctor about it and he prescribed her something (sorry, I don't know the name of it).
Basically, if you can't find anything that works for you, ask your doctor at your next visit!

Pregnancy Acne Treatments - The Ones Pregnant Women Must Avoid
Treating acne is almost always the right move whenever you have the symptoms, but not always. There are certain stages in life when you should not treat acne. During pregnancy is one such time. As you know, this is a very delicate time in any woman’s life. It is during this phase of a her life that she must take extra care of herself. If a pregnant woman feels she needs treating for acne, then she must make sure that she equips herself with adequate well informed information.
If you are trying to become pregnant, or feel that there is a chance that this may be the case you should take the same advice. The following lists some medications for acne which are not good for use during pregnancy as they can be harmful for your unborn child:
Hormonal therapy - This may include flutamide, estrogen or spirolactone. These are to be avoided. They are harmful to both mother and fetus and and might lead to problems. It is better to avoid this altogether.
Another treatment which may endanger the lives of pregnant women is Isotretinoin. It has negative effects in a number of ways, particularly if you are breastfeeding planning to breastfeed. This can cause severe health issues for both mother and any unborn child inside a womb. It is advisable that a woman taking this medicine should be monitored by a medical professional. Anyone trying to get pregnant should ignore this treatment as it may trigger negative side-effects not only for the mother but most especially for your unborn child.
As well as these, oral tetracyclines can be problematic. If they include doxycycline, or tetracycline or minocycline these should not be used at all. Especially, pregnant women or anyone who is breastfeeding must refrain from the use of these. They can give significant side effects which would be but a serious threat to the mother's life and to the child. The other main effect is a permanent discoloration of the teeth and increased risk of bone disorders.
The last set of treatments to avoid are topical retinoids. Treatments such as adapalene, tazarotene and tretinoin can be hazardous to a prospective mother and her unborn child. As those above mentioned, these are an important hazard.
So, regardless of whether you are male or female, pregnant or not, it is not wise to use these stronger measures mentioned.
For all of you who would like to treat their acne but are pregnant, you should find a more healthy, less dangerous less invasive way to address your skin disfiguration.
There is due time for treating your acne and during your pregnancy is not one of the safest times.
