Can anyone recover from bad acne?

OK so when I was 14-mid 16, I had horrible acne, and worse yet, at the time I didn't take care of myself...so now I'm 17, almost 18 soon, and I'm left with acne scars, and those things that are like black heads..but filled with white stuff that may be puss...and some black heads,gross I know. Now whats upsettting the most to me, is I have a really good facial structure, and if it wasn't for my skin complexion being so bad, I would probably be considered hot just for my face. So, can I completely recover? Can I take what I have now and eventually have flawless skin? With no scars, no white heads, and no blackheads. I really want to accomplish this.

Your skin reflects not only effects of your enviromnemt but also what is going on inside your body. To maintain good looking and good feeling skin on a long run, you need a combination of good cleaning routine (day and night - there are systems that are specialy designed for acne prone skin. ProActiv works great for me) and good diet.

I know the diet part is not what many your women like to hear but if you don't give your body proper nutrition, it will let you know, and skin problems is one way of your body communicating to you it lacks something.

Try to add Zinc in your diet, either naturally or take supplement. Many of us are zinc defficient and sometimes bringing your zinc level back up can treat acne on its own.

Other vitamins that skin benefit from are B, C, and E. You also want to get as many antioxidants as you can - e.g. from berries, pomegrannates and other natural sources.

Drink plenty of water. You want to keep properly hydrated.

Avoid smoking, excessive consumption of alcohol (I know you're still under age but we all were young), and try not to over eat on chocolate. Those are usually the really bad enemies.
