Renewing Cleanser Large

What is a good face cleanser for me to use?

I'm 18 years old and I get the occasional white head pimples along my chin and brow line. I get about 3 pimples a week. I also get pimples that are just large and red, but they are under my skin and don't ever become white heads, they are very painful. I don't have oily skin or sensitive skin, I guess I would consider my skin normal.

I have used prescription creme for my pimples in the past: Clindicimin something. But I cannot get my prescription renewed because my doctor says that the acne is not severe enough to require the medicine.

So now I do not know what to use for my pimples, cause I have always used the prescription. A drugstore face cleanser is what a prefer and I just don't know which is a good one to use. Also, should I use a moisturizer too? If so, what is a good kind to use?

Thanks!!

St Ives Apricot Scrubs. You can get an exfoliating (gentle as well) or a blemish & blackhead clearing (for your case, it can be used as a prevention). They are both oil free! They are gentle for daily use and they don't dry your face up. You can also try washing your face with Dove or Lux (hard to find but just as great as Dove) when you wake up, during the day, and before you go to bed. Avoid touching your face, and if you have bangs (front or side) pin them up. The oils from your hair rub onto your skin and clog you pores.

Have fun !
&&, the St. Ives products can be found almost everywhere. its quite convenient!

When I started out I went for the cheap stuff at first, things you can find in drugstores. If you choose this route, you can't test the textures of things (such as a velvety texture of an eyeshadow vs a chalky one). Also, cheaper make up is full of crud (chemicals which mess your skin up, such as talc) and tends to fade faster or wipe off. The only drugstore brands I will even consider are L'oreal and Physicians Formula.

You know what is really fun is to go to a department store with some friends (or even your mother!) and walk around the counters.. stick your fingers in the shadows and things to get used to the different textures each company offers. Also.. ask for samples!! It can't hurt to ask, and that's what the samples are there for. Just ask the counter person at each brand which interests you and explain your new interest in cosmetics and ask for any samples they might have. Samples are really fun to have, and saves you money! Also, when doing this you can ask if and when they might offer cosmetic make overs and let them do your face up, then you get another idea of how light or heavy a cosmetic will feel on you, how the colors blend, how they look on you. Sephora.com and Bare Escentuals are probably my largest places to shop for cosmetics these days, and both have outlets in selected malls.. Check them out. =)

While it is fun to collect cosmetics (I have far too much!), try to keep a few things in perspective. You only need a selective staple for bases (concealer, foundation, powder) and should not buy up everything where this is regarded. (I use Bare Escentuals for these as they are all powder based and incredibly light weight, yet their coverage is phenomenal and each product is only made up of 5 natural minerals vs all the chemical appeal most make up has.. very good for your skin). Blushes/bronzers are the same. You only need a limited amount and make sure you are getting ones that are flattering to you (No Pat Benetar 80's flashbacks! Striped cheeks are not pretty).

As for eyeliners, I have used pencils, liquid, gel, cake.. The new gel ones are great, but you must get used to using a thin liner brush with them. I use the Bare Escentual ones now, which are in a loose powder form but you can really control it well in how light or dark you want them that way with a liner brush.. and they stay put! You can also dampen the brush and put them on like liquid eyeliner for a more dramatic effect.. And they have sooo many colors to choose from! Mascara: I use Clinique or Lancome, they irritate my eyes less.

Eye shadows and lipstick are probably what you will end up owning a large collection of. My favorite eye shadows are from: Bare Escentuals, Urban Decay (so glittery!), Mac, Este Lauder, Chanel and Lancome. The textures are very velvety/creamy and tend to stay on the best, though the Urban Decay tends to be more chalky, unfortunately. Also learn how to "foil" your eye shadows for a very metallic sheen.. It's a great trick and gives you more choices with a single shade. For Lips, I tend to just use a nice liner and a lip gloss because it really enhances your lips and makes them alluring. For darker shades, though, stick with lipstick as gloss might be more apt to feather or smear. My favorite lip gunk is from: Lancome, Bare Escentuals, Urban Decay, Este Lauder, Nars, and Clinique. Also, I use a "reverse lip liner" which is a very light shade you trace ever so slightly above your upper lip line to make your lips look more full and pouty. If you try lip venom or any product made to plump your lips, try it on a day you are not going out first, because sometimes there might be garish results and it lasts for several hours.

As for brushes.. shop around for those (while at the department store, check out each brands brushes and learn the differences in hair and texture used). Mac has some good ones, as does Clinique and Bare Escentuals. Those are where all mine are from. But make sure to invest in brush cleaner to keep them bacteria free! I've been known to spy disposable brushes at department store counters and ask if I may take one, they are there for trying the cosmetics on but make great back-up brushes or for traveling or your purse.

Good luck and enjoy your make up collecting. Also maybe watch make up videos on the net (there's loads of them and also on people's cosmetic-based blogs), you will learn lots of things to do, and might spot new products which interest you.

Also, around major holidays you will see cosmetic companies releasing gift sets and palettes in department stores, these are really fun to check out their products.. but be warned: They are tempting but not always a selection which will suit you. Buy what you want, but don't be too compulsive. Make sure you are buying stuff you will actually use on a somewhat regular basis or it's just wasted money and the products will expire.
