help! ingested small amount acne treatment?
i put an acne topical treatment on a pimple on my lip and forgot that it says do not use on lips. its 5% benzoyl peroxide.. i feel funny in my stomach and had some abdominal pain. it was only a dab of it but then i ate food shortly afterwards. is it serious?
If it was just small "dab", you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Did you know BP is actually widely used in the food industry to bleach/whiten products like flour and cheese? The straight chemical, even at low concentrations in acne treatments, is still pretty harsh though- most products state something like "keep away from eyes, nose, and mouth." If you ingested a significant amount and/or start to experience more serious symptoms, I would take the label advice- call a poison control center (US:1-800-222-1222) or seek medical attention.
